RAIL SYSTEMS

Rail systems engineering

Souxmar provides longitudinal train dynamics and subsystem modeling, engineering simulation and analysis, control system design, and model verification and validation (V&V) for rail vehicles and onboard equipment. We connect physical models, control software and test data within a defined engineering workflow.

For rolling stock manufacturers, rail equipment suppliers, engineering teams and test-system integrators developing locomotives, trainsets, metro or tram systems and onboard equipment.

Discuss your requirements

Longitudinal train dynamics and subsystem modeling

We develop executable models for longitudinal train dynamics, traction and braking behavior, propulsion and auxiliary systems. Analysis can cover speed profiles, stopping behavior, energy use, thermal response and sensitivity to vehicle loading or route gradients. Model boundaries, operating conditions and fidelity are agreed around the engineering decisions the model needs to support.

Control system design and closed-loop simulation

Work covers control architecture, control law development, tuning, state estimation and closed-loop performance analysis. Applications can include speed regulation, traction and braking coordination, door control, cooling and energy management. Candidate controllers are evaluated against defined commands, disturbances, parameter variations and actuator limits before integration with customer software or hardware.

Model verification and validation (V&V)

Implementation verification checks the model and software against specifications, interfaces and requirements. Model validation compares predicted behavior with suitable measurements or reference data for the intended use. Model-in-the-loop (MIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) test environments support repeatable normal-operation, degraded-mode and fault scenarios. Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) integration connects an agreed physical controller to a real-time plant model, with specified I/O, timing and interface equipment. Results are recorded against acceptance criteria with traceable test reports.

Real-time models and digital twin integration

Models can be prepared for real-time execution, co-simulation and integration with engineering tools or test benches. Digital twin projects connect the selected vehicle or subsystem model to supplied test or operational data, with a defined synchronization method and intended engineering use. MATLAB/Simulink, Python and C++ components can support model execution, analysis automation, visualization and reporting.

Starting your project

Share the vehicle or subsystem definition, intended engineering task, operating envelope and available test data. Useful inputs include traction and braking characteristics, route profiles, control interfaces, sampling requirements and existing models. We agree on deliverables, validation evidence and acceptance criteria before development.

Project questions

Can we start with a single rail subsystem?

Yes. A project can focus on a bounded model, an existing controller, a test environment or one analysis question. Interfaces can be defined so the work can later connect to a wider vehicle model or test bench.

How is the model validation scope agreed?

We identify the model purpose, operating envelope, reference data and comparison metrics at the start. Validation results state where the evidence supports use of the model and where additional measurements or model development are needed.

Does this service include independent certification?

We provide engineering models, test environments and verification and validation evidence within the agreed scope. Independent assessment, certification and authorization for operational use are separate requirements to be defined with the customer and relevant assessment bodies.
